During the last three decades the discipline of molecular and cellular biology has expanded phenomenally in scope and in depth. New knowledge in the field, mainly acquired through a multidisciplinary approach and experimental research, has made it possible not only to unravel living processes in health and disease from molecular to organismal level but also to introduce novel and more effective therapeutic and diagnostic tools in medical practice.
In line with the policy of The University of Lahore to develop high quality expertise & manpower in emerging areas of biomedical sciences, a Centre for Research in Molecular Medicine was initiated in April 2009. The Centre represents a major investment & a bold initiative by the University in the field of life sciences & human health. A covered area of approximately 9,000 sq feet was allocated to the Centre at the University’s Defence Road Campus adjacent to the University College of Medicine, to develop purpose-built teaching & research laboratories with state-of-theart facilities. The Centre draws resources from other academic units of the University as well, such as the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Department of Pharmacy, University College of Medicine & Department of Information Technology. CRIMM also has close collaboration in relevant areas with other reputable institutions within & outside the country.
To conduct quality research in molecular medicine and related disciplines with strong relevance to human health in the local context.
To provide research training of postgraduate students in biomedical sciences, leading to PhD degree.
To firm up research linkages & interactive cooperation with national and international institutions conducting similar research.
To attract scientists and physicians for short term training in molecular medicine techniques and invite foreign & local experts for lectures & in research advisory capacity.
To publish scientific articles based on research conducted at the Centre in peer reviewed international journals.
To generate high quality manpower to meet the demand for qualified faculty and scientists, in institutions both educational and research, and in industry.
To provide an open, stimulating and nurturing environment for training and career development in biomedical sciences.
CRIMM attempts to integrate molecular, cellular and systems approaches & focuses on carrying out goal-oriented research & delivering postgraduate programmes of the highest possible quality. CRIMM offers postgraduate programmes for medical & science candidates, leading to MPhil & PhD
