Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology
The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology was established in 2004 & it offers degrees in the subjects of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. It is first institute in its field established in private sector. It fulfills the requirements for advancements in the subjects of biological sciences, which is now the most important area of studies for the 21st century associated to economic & industrial development of the country.
The institute has services of highly qualified faculty members, provision of equipment & building which has a surrounding of academic atmosphere. The department is presently, headed by Prof. Dr. S.A.Jafri,TI, AF. He is supported by competent team of young & senior scholars.
The subjects of Molecular Biochemistry, Molecular Physiology have emerged as new trends in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology curricula with special emphasis on cellular mechanism leading to functions in living organisms. The institute has a focus on these areas in conjunction to developments in DNA recombinant technology, monoclonal antibody, immunology, immunoassays and protein sequencing etc., to study the structural and functional aspects. These basic and applied research fields have helped to explore innovative pathways of research fields to understand genetic techniques.
At present this institute is actively engaged in studies related to cell receptor studies, lipidmembrane- receptors interactions, cancer, molecular detection of infectious diseases, application of immunoassays in diagnostic fields & industrial biotechnology. M.Phil. / Ph.D. scholars are enrolled at the IMBB to take specific areas at postgraduate research degree programs. All the degree programs are introduced on the lines given by HEC and PMDC of Pakistan. The institute is highly equipped with facilities for research students which enable them to produce high quality manpower in the field of molecular biology & biotechnology and all other fields.
