15,000+ patients benefit from UOL—Al-Baseer Eye Project

Apart from quality education services, the University of Lahore, through its Teaching Hospital (UOLTH), in collaboration with Al-Baseer Foundation (AF), is offering a remarkable public service in the sphere of health. Under the Comprehensive Eye Care Programme (CECP), a joint project established in August 2017, it has successfully handled over 15,000 cases in 85 eye camps.

According to Dr Fida Hussain, an Optometrist managing the CECP project over 300 cataract surgeries had been conducted and thousands of medicines and glasses donated to non-affording patients.

He further observed that in the months of February and March, 2018, CECP benefited 4,332 patients in the eye camps across Lahore and 1,751 under UOLTH OPD. Of the beneficiaries 57 percent were female, 33 percent male, and 10 percent children below the age of 15. “We also referred 895 patients for cataract surgeries, 1,120 for glasses and 1,916 have been donated to deserving patients” said Dr. Fida.
