UOL hosts 3rd Int’l Health Trigon Summit

In an effort to provide a channel for the discussion of challenges faced by pharmacists, doctors and nurses in the provision of patient care and to put forward ideas for the betterment of health care system in Pakistan according to International standards, the 3rd International Health Trigon Summit (2018) was held at the UOL between April 17 and 18, 2018. The summit was organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Syed Saeed ul Hassan (Dean) and Dr. Javed Iqbal (HoD).

This year’s conference themed Inter-Professional Cooperation in Pharmacotherapy discussed the rational use of drug as prescribed by doctors, counterchecked and dispensed by pharmacists, and safely administered by nurses. The use of pharmacotherapy is much debated because problematic drug use involves many complex personal and social issues.

The inaugural session was graced and presided over by Rector Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, President of Pakistan Academy of Family Physician, Dr. Tariq Mian, DG Nursing Ms. Kausar Parveen, Director Admissions, Mr. Muhammad Ashraf, Pro-Rector Raiwind Road Campus, Prof. Dr. Saleem Shujja, Dean Prof. Dr. Syed Saeed ul Hassan, Head Dr. Javed Iqbal, Chief Drug Controller Punjab, Mr. Munawar Hayat and Alumnus and Platinum sponsor Mr. Uzair Nagra.

The summit had the presence of international speakers like Prof. Dr. Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman and Dr. Amir Hayat Khan from University Sains Malaysia who gave intellectual and well-thought provocative presentation on clinical pharmacy practice.

There were several scientific sessions chaired and co-chaired by renowned professors from Punjab University Lahore, Quaid-e- Azam University, Islamabad, Comsats University Abbotabad, Bahaudin Zakariya University, Multan, Government College University Faisalabad, Agriculture University, Faisalabad and The University of Lahore (Lahore and Gujrat campuses).

More than 120 abstracts were submitted from researchers and scientists, 110 papers were delivered and 39 posters from the disciplines of medicine, nursing, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmacognosy and harmaceutical chemistry were displayed. Dr Furqan Hashmi (PU), Dr Furqan Khursheed Hashmi (QUA), Dr Fakhar ud Din (QUA) and Dr Alam Zeb (QUA) evaluated the exhibited posters. Dr Irfan Anjum and Ms. Maryam Shabbir from UOL Faculty of Pharmacy featured the best two posters.

Apart from academic sessions, the conference had cultural and music performances from UOL Music School, Art and Culture and Music Societies. The culture of Pakistan was beautifully portrayed by the students of Culture Society which propelled the esteemed guests to join the cultural dance. The guests were also entertained with dinner arranged by University of Lahore.
