Dr. Ibrar Hussain gets Best Paper Award Int’l recognition

"A System for Mining Interesting Tourist Locations and Travel Sequences from Public Geo-tagged Photos" a research paper/article authored by Dr. Ibrar Hussain, HoD Software Engineering in 2015 got Best Paper Award 2015 international recognition by Elsevier under Data & Knowledge Engineering (DKE) category. According to Wikipedia, Elsevier is information and Analytics Company and one of the world’s major providers of scientific, technical and medical information established in 1880 as a publishing company. It publishes more than 430,000 articles annually in 2,500 journals with archives containing over 13 million documents and 30,000 e-books. 

The paper was selected recently due to its novelty, comprehensiveness, and being a basis for many other research studies in the area of location-based services.

Jury members that selected Dr. Ibrar’s paper were chaired by information technology Prof. Matthias Jarke from Germany. Others were;   Stephen Liddle (Professor, and Head of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Manchester, UK); John Mylopoulos (Professor of Computer Science, University of Toronto, Canada); Panos Vassiliadis (Professor of Computer Science, University of Ioannina, Greece) and Carson Woo, Stanley Kwok (Professor in Business, Conceptual modelling, Information systems analysis and design, Requirements engineering, University of British Columbia).

The news of this achievement excited Dr. Ibrar and this is what he said when contacted by The Spectacle on September 24, 2018; “I heard the news from my Ph.D supervisor that my paper got international recognition. I was very excited and it was good news to hear. It is a big achievement that my humble work is recognized at an international prestigious forum.” 

He calls upon his students and colleagues in the department to work hard, be consistent, and be passionate about whatever they do.
