The Center for Sustainability Research and Practice (CSRP), UOL, in collaboration with ID House, hosted UNITExPakistan on March 25-26, 2019 at UOL’s Defence Road Campus, based on the themes of peace and extremism. The event aimed at creating an environment of social cohesion within Pakistan’s cultural diversity as well as empowering the youth to realize their potential for positive change.

The event which focused on social entrepreneurship constituted three segments, including competition, workshops and keynote sessions. Mr. Muhammad Adeel Javed (Founder & CEO VizRah Digital), Mr. Komal Tariq (Design and Strategy Head, Social Innovation Lab) and Ms. Amna Hassan (Design and Marketing Executive, Social Innovation Lab) acted as the adjudicators of the event that had 20 participants grouped into six teams.

Each team was given a task to design workable business models, awareness campaigns or social enterprises. The team ‘Maria Toorpakai Wazir’ won the competition for planning a social enterprise that was designed to contribute towards spreading awareness about forced conversion of girls to Islam in future, thus training the victims to be financially independent. The teams were provided the opportunity for mentorship over the next six months.
Think global and act local; defining your mission and vision; exploring funding avenues for social enterprise in Pakistan and how to pitch a social project were the workshop topics moderated by Kamila Ciok (25under25 by Forbes, CEO & Founder Cooperation of Diversity), Ms. Saima Ashraf (great novelist, a freelancer and an entrepreneur), Ms. Zarene Zuberi (Senior Manager Social Innovation Lab) and Muhammad Yasir Amjad respectively.
The competitive event had keynote sessions delivered by Founder Akhuwat Foundation Mr. Amjad Saqib and Dr. Fatima Sajjad (Researcher in the field of Critical Peace Studies and Peace Education in Pakistan) on "Youth Empowerment and Grassroot Peace Building” which continued for 2 days.
